As you read God’s Word, ask him to speak to you. You might say something like the invitation of this ancient writer: “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” 

You may want to write down what stands out to you as you read. Are there words or phrases that you want to consider? You can also talk with God about what you read—after all, the Bible is a living book with a living author! Isn’t that amazing? How many books have you read that you can actually discuss with the author?

The best advice on reading the Bible is this: Just begin. Read. Reflect. Pray. Repeat. 

You don’t eat just one physical meal and consider yourself “done” with eating. You keep on taking in nourishment so that you will be well and strong. Your spiritual diet is just as important. Don’t neglect “mealtime” with your Heavenly Father.

  • What are the keys to consistent Bible reading for you?
  • What is your plan for reading?

 

Take Action:

Find a place that is the best for you to read the Bible. Get everything you need to help you have a meaningful Bible reading time in place, like your favorite Bible, something to record notes on, a glass of water, etc. Prepare everything in advance so all of your energy can be focused on reading and hearing from God.
