Golden Nugget: “You are what you practice most.” —Richard Carlson

Daily Message:

Regardless of the interest, activity, or hobby, initial enthusiasm can only carry you so far. You’ll discover that improvement comes only with regular and intentional practice. The Christian life is similar in many respects. Choosing to follow Jesus can be amazing and invigorating at first. But what happens when the newness begins to wear off?

The reason people devote countless hours to improving their golf game, 10K time, or guitar skill is because they value it—it matters to them. The more they practice, the better they get; the better they get, the more they enjoy the activity and the more they get out of it.

The same is true in the Christian life. The apostle Paul wrote to a young believer, “Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

Consider This:

  • What are some of the ways you can begin to train yourself to be godly?
  • How can you monitor your progress?

Take Action:

Take some time to assemble the themes presented throughout these inspirational readings, like prayer, Bible study, time with Jesus, etc. Choose several to be part of your regimen to train for godliness.
