After the Game, Beyond the Poster

Golden Nugget: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Daily Verse: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16

Daily Message:
You may have seen John 3:16 on posters at football games, but what’s that about anyway? Why would someone hold a sign on national TV year after year, game after game?

If you’ve ever been in love before, there was probably a time when you gave up something for that special person—time, money, friends, etc. The importance of what you gave up demonstrated how much you valued your significant other.

John 3:16 explains how much God loves mankind. It is actually the foundation of Christianity. God gave up something incredibly valuable—his only son—in order to be in a relationship with us. Our part in the relationship is to “believe in him,” which means to “trust in, rely on, or cling to” him.

According to a 2011 Gallup Poll, nine out of ten Americans claim they believe in God. But what we believe about God is important too: he loves you and invites you into a relationship with him. And that is something you can cling to.

Consider This:

  • What have you given up for love?
  • How does it feel to know that God, who created everything, wants a personal relationship with you?

Take Action:
Think about a relationship with God. Maybe the next step in yours is simply telling him that you want a relationship, too.
