Building a Great Relationship with Jesus

Building a Great Relationship with Jesus

Golden Nugget: Your new relationship with Jesus will grow as you spend time with Him.

Daily Message:

Prayer builds our relationship with Jesus. But again, as with any relationship, our busyness can be a problem.

Consider Dan. His alarm goes off, but he hits the snooze button and rolls over for another five minutes of sleep—five times. He rushes out of the house, barely making it to work before his first appointment of the day. After 5:00, he heads off to the gym for a basketball game with the guys before driving home. Sitting down for dinner with his wife, Amy, Dan grabs the remote and flips to ESPN to check the sports scores for the day.

Yes, Amy and Dan are married. Legally, they are relatives, but do they relate? Do they share life or just space?

Dan and Amy’s story is much like that of someone who begins a relationship with Jesus yet never spends time with Him. They belong to Jesus but don’t take the time to build a relationship with Him. Jesus wants to relate to you. Talk to Him about your day—your problems and successes. You may feel silly at first, but this can be a great first step to developing a strong prayer life.

Consider This:

  • What makes prayer meaningful to you?
  • What adjustments can you make to your prayer time to add meaning?

Take Action:

Do some prayer research. Ask three people what makes prayer meaningful to them and ask for advice on how you can grow in that area.
