Forgiven and Free

Forgiven and Free

Golden Nugget: Jesus is all about our future, not about our past. The moment you accepted Jesus as your savior, you could face the future with hope.

Daily Message:

At one point in Jesus’ ministry, the Pharisees brought a woman accused of adultery to Jesus for him to bring her to justice. In reality, they wanted to trap him in a no-win situation because they hated him; her accusers thought this woman was unforgivable.

Now that you are a follower of Jesus Christ, what can you do about the sins in your past? Jesus’ response to the “adulterous woman” provides insight.

First, He sent away her insincere accusers after a challenge: “‘Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’” This sent a message to the woman and those around: you aren’t alone; we’re all guilty of something. Then “Jesus straightened up and asked her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ ‘No one, sir,’ she said. ‘Then neither do I condemn you,’ Jesus declared. ‘Go now and leave your life of sin.’”

Jesus is all about our future, not about our past. He died to pay the penalty for our sins; He has already resolved our pasts. The moment you accepted Jesus as your savior, you could face the future with hope. We can live a new life—forgiven and free.

Consider This:

  • What sin in your past are you having the toughest time moving beyond?
  • How could Jesus’ words to the adulterous woman give perspective?

Take Action:

Making peace with your past is easier said than done, but it’s essential to moving forward with Jesus. Pray that God would help you understand and accept Jesus’ forgiveness on a deeper level. Consider getting more help from a counselor or a friend.
