Giving God Space

Giving God Space

Golden Nugget: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” —Matthew 4:4

Daily Message:

The Bible is life-giving to those who follow Jesus, but our crazy lifestyles can become barriers to our spending time reading God’s Word.

Consider Tony. He stays up late working on a project for his boss, so the next morning he sleeps through his alarm. Once he finally gets to work, he’s busy with clients all morning and then joins a conference call at noon. After the meeting, he returns to his desk to answer e-mails and then rushes out at 4:30 to make it to his son’s soccer game. After the game, Tony heads out for his usual three-mile run. He wonders why he is so exhausted, and then realizes that he hasn’t eaten since dinner the night before.

Tony’s lifestyle leaves little room for God; he doesn’t have the time to eat physical food, much less take in the spiritual sustenance of the Word of God. But to grow in your relationship with God, time spent in His Word is critical. So, along with other important priorities, you must add feeding on “every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Yes, you’ll have to get creative and make new priorities—and at first it’ll be tough. But the value of fresh bread far outweighs the cost!

Consider This:

  • What is the best time and place for you to read the Bible and pray each day?
  • What is one change you can make in your lifestyle that would protect that space?

Take Action:
Be creative in making space for God. Ask other Christ-followers how they get their spiritual bread. Think outside the box. The more fresh bread, the better!
