detour on the road

When Life’s Path Takes a Detour

Golden Nugget: “In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Daily Verse: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” —Romans 8:28

Daily Message:
We’ve all experienced disappointment when things didn’t work out the way we wanted. Maybe you were heartbroken when a relationship ended or when you didn’t get that dream job. It’s hard then to imagine that things are being worked out for your good. But later something better likely came along—maybe you met your future spouse or were given a job beyond what you imagined.

If your “something better” hasn’t come yet, this verse offers comfort. We are assured that God is in control and will work things out for the good of those who love him. We are to love and trust God even when circumstances are difficult. We’re never promised that life will be easy, but that things will work out for the best—even when the steps to get there may be unpleasant. Indeed, our failures and difficulties are often when we learn and grow the most.

So take heart and put your faith in God’s plan. Whatever difficulty you’re now facing will be worked out to your ultimate benefit.

Consider This:

  • Can you think of something that you wanted so badly to happen but, in hindsight, are glad did not?
  • How did things work for the best?

Take Action:
Look at the big events in your life and thank God for working things out for your good.
