grown man feeling sad

It Takes A Lot for a Grown Man to Cry

Golden Nugget: “Jesus wept.”

Daily Verse: “Jesus wept.” —John 11:35

Daily Message:
My daughter is prone to drama. After a pretty significant meltdown over something not-so-significant, I asked, “Honey, if everything is a big deal to you, how will I know when a big deal really happens?”

Silence.

Have you ever noticed that men are less prone to visible drama but can be incredibly emotional at times? It’s not that men don’t have emotions; it’s just that it often takes something significant to trigger their release—like a daughter’s wedding, an inconceivable injustice, or an unthinkable loss.

This short verse comes from a time in Jesus’ life when he has just learned of the death of his good friend, Lazarus. Even though Jesus knew he would later raise Lazarus from the dead, Jesus was still filled with great sorrow and compassion—just as you and I are at times.

While it is comforting to know that God is in control of the big picture, it is also encouraging to realize that Jesus cares about the everyday circumstances of our lives in the meantime. Jesus understands our feelings, and when we are hurting, he hurts for us.

Consider This:
What are some of the “big deals” in your life right now?
How would your life be different if you really recognized that your grief, hurt, and brokenness were big deals to Jesus?

Take Action:
Take a moment to be honest with God about your struggles and your fears. The next step might be to trust him with them. Are you ready?
