You Need Community

Golden Nugget: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…but encouraging one another.”

Daily Message:

The Christian life was meant to be lived in community, not in isolation. As a new believer, it is vitally important to look for a church that is committed to these things:

  • Teaching the Bible
  • Reaching out to all types of people
  • Affirming that Jesus Christ is God in human flesh
  • Following Jesus Christ’s teachings and growing in relationship with him

Living and worshipping as a community of believers has been the Christian way for centuries, beginning soon after Pentecost (for an explanation of Pentecost, see Acts 2):

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. . . . And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God. —Acts 2:42, 44–47

Don’t try to live the Christian life alone; Christians are made for community.

Consider This:

  • What is your biggest challenge to attending church now?
  • Where can you find help with your challenge?

Take Action:

Open your calendar and determine how many times you can meet together this month with other Christ-followers. Mark the dates and make those meetings a high priority.
